How can Build a Better Connection Between the Mind and Body

Gran Canaria is a Spanish island off of the coast of Morocco, which is the destination of choice for the Tinkoff-Saxo December training camp. The team has been coming here for several years as it ensures consistent weather, a perfect mixture of terrain, and quiet roads. If you haven’t heard of Gran Canaria you may have heard of another island in the Canary Island chain called Tenerife, which is where many of the top World Tour riders choose to do their high-altitude training camps.

Teams traditionally organize two separate two-week long training camps. The first is done at the beginning of December, and then second in early January in order to prepare the team for the season which starts in Australia in January. The camps are also a time to organize bike fits, conduct physiological testing and create team camaraderie.

What to do Between Training Cycles

You have two options. The first (and easiest) would be to use this period between marathon training cycles for active rest. Continue to train, but without passion. Cut your miles in half. Substitute some cross-training. You should be able to maintain, if not improve, your fitness doing relatively little. Actually, I’ve known some runners who surprised themselves by setting PRs during a down cycle. The extra rest allowed them to benefit from all the hard training preceding that cycle.

The second option (and perhaps the most logical one for someone seeking a PR) is to shift training focus, go from a concentration on endurance to a concentration on speed. Select one of my 8-week programs leading to a race between 5-K and 10-K, whether or not you run such a race or not. Running fewer miles will allow you to run faster miles, maybe even do some speedwork. Eighteen weeks out, back to marathon training. That’s the logical route leading to a BQ.

Experiencing three types of autonomous driving in three weeks

Are you getting a little bored of the endless talk about autonomy for cars? And all the excitement in the mainstream media about Google cars and how we are on the edge of a whole new way of driving?
I don’t blame you. The day when your car will drive you to work is still a long way off. And don’t expect Google or Apple to upend the global car industry. The majority of cars sold in 10 years’ time will still need to be driven by a qualified occupant who will have their hands on the wheel for the vast majority of any journey.
Truth is, there are many kinds of automotive autonomy - and you probably have at least one form on your car already.
The fact that you might not know that is the whole point. With the exception of hands-free progress in heavy traffic - something that is still a tricky area for the law because of clauses in the Vienna Convention - most of the autonomous technology coming our way will lie dormant until the split second it is needed.
